This short film is a visual account of some of the many sunken wrecks of Truk Lagoon and how they came to be. I wanted the film to be a story about the people, the terror of conflict and this great museum resting below the waves, unseen from above. Many hours of old archive footage have been trawled so that I could add some detail and bring the story alive. I have mixed individual archive scenes to show the background and preparation for conflict although I have been creative with their editing too as very few scenes are in their original order. I was thrilled to find the Japanese footage as so little remains and was in much poorer quality than of the Americans who, as you will see, were already using early colour film. I always enjoy using music to convey a sense of drama and emotion so I've keyframed certain scenes to reflect that. Above all I wanted this to be more than just a collection of underwater scenes. I wanted it to be thought provoking, showing destruction and tragedy sitting hand-in-hand with the beauty of the marine-world as it reclaims these monsters of war. 'Juxtapose' seemed therefore to be an ideal title. All of the underwater scenes are shot on a standard GoPro 3 (Black) and the above water scenes about 50/50 with a Canon 5D MK2. Edited over many hours using Sony Vegas Pro 12. Music by 'Two Steps From Hell'
